Project Cars 2 // Vehicles Page

After a morning listening to music and going through the 189 (+4 DLC) available vehicles, here is  an essentially complete Project Cars 2 vehicle list-

Project Cars 2 // Locations Page

I’ve been enjoying Project Cars 2 so much that I wanted to make my own list of the tracks and vehicles. While the vehicles page isn’t quite ready for posting yet, the locations page has all of the basic information entered

Get Real! // Unboxing an HTC Vive

Before the 28th of August 2017 I had not tried any kind of virtual reality device. Then I went to get an HTC Vive virtual reality headset, since there was a significant (-$350cdn before tax) price drop not long before. This post is a look at the unpacking process and a few notes about the device.

Dirt Rally // Pikes Peak Hillclimb Record Attempt

With 152 turns over 19.9km, the real-life world record for the Pikes Peak hillclimb course is a staggering 8:13 by Sebastien Loeb in 2013. Using the same car in Dirt Rally and after a lot of practice, I beat the record time by 9 seconds to come in at 8:04. Other people have done significantly better in-game, but I am very satisfied that I managed to get to this short a time. Below is the video of my run.

Non-cloud Saves // Just Cause 3

A large portion of games now use either Steam cloud or their own online save system, which conveniently avoids losing progress and (sometimes) settings after a reinstall. I was somewhat surprised to find that Just Cause 3 doesn’t do this.

Servers Shutdown // Nosgoth

As a habit I keep my large library of games installed and track updates as they come in via Steam. I thought I had noticed something about it before on RockPaperShotgun.com, and sure enough today there was an “update” to Nosgoth. I checked the Steam news feed for the game and confirmed that it is closing down its servers today, ending the game.

A Taste Of // Evolve

Evolve is primarily a co-op first-person shooter, but with third-person brawling for the titular evolving monsters, who play solo against four hunters.

CSGO Woes // Windows 10 and working again

I still don’t know what the root of the problem is but I’m thinking it has something to do with the DirectX dependencies that get installed along with the game.

Just Too Hard // Electronic Super Joy

Perhaps I’m just not doing something right. Perhaps I’m bad at it. Perhaps it just is too hard. One way or another I think I’ve had enough of Electronic Super Joy.

4K OK // Testing 3840×2160

Boxed Samsung 28D590 UHD Monitor

On July 2nd I picked up a Samsung LU28D590S, an entry-level Ultra High Definition (UHD) 28″ monitor, for can$655 (~us$612, €450, £357) after taxes. Since then I have been doing various tests to determine exactly which games support UHD and to what extent, as well as trying to get a sense of how it changes various games and software.

In this post I give a general review and opinion of the monitor and examine the viability of “4K” gaming.

Virtual Cartography // Railworks 2013 Routes

uk_train_simulator_routes

Railworks 2013 has a built-in editor, which displays the GPS coordinates of each quick drive location on a route. Using that information I have created Google Earth/Maps versions of each of the 24 routes I currently have for the simulator.
